Timeless Expressions in Bronze
The Journey of Gerhard van Niekerk
Born in 1980 in Stellenbosch, South Africa, Gerhard van Niekerk discovered his fascination with the human form early in life. Growing up surrounded by the natural beauty of the Cape Winelands, he developed a profound curiosity about the individuality, movement, and impermanence of the human body—an interest that would shape his artistic journey.
Gerhard’s career began with innovative explorations in composite materials, combining marble and GFRC (glass fiber-reinforced concrete) to create sculptures of extraordinary strength and detail. However, his lifelong dream of working in bronze became a reality in 2024, marking a pivotal evolution in his art. The shift to bronze allowed him to imbue his work with a timeless quality, elevating his exploration of the human condition to new heights.
Today, Gerhard is celebrated for his ability to translate the complexities of human existence into breathtaking works of art. His sculptures stand as a testament to his technical mastery, philosophical insight, and unwavering dedication to capturing the essence of what it means to be human.
